The Best That We've Got

The Best Taht We've Got

"You said you'd do anything for me.  But you stood there and said nothing."  "You said I could trust you, but everything you do says the opposite."

Peter the apostle said, "I will lay down my life for you."  Jesus knew Peter would deny Him three times, yet Peter was exalted in the church.  Through Jesus - God offers us enternity.  He only asks that we give Him the best that we've got.  Believe in yourself.  God believes in You!

Inspired by John 13:31-33, 36-38.

When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in himself and will glorify him at once.  Little children, I am with you only a little longer.  You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, 'Where I am going, you cannot come.'"  Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?"  Jesus answered, ":Where I am going, you cannot follow me now; but you will follow afterwards."  Peter said to him, "Lord, why can I not follow you now?  I will lay down my life for you."  Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for me?  Very truly, I tell you, before the cock crows, you will have denied me three times."

In Good Spirit

In Good Spirit

Will it be: “Why did you give your belongings to him? I could have used them.” Or: “I am glad you found someone who could use your things. What a blessing that must have been for him.”

Give from the heart, receive with gratefulness & always be happy for another’s blessings. One day we may be in need and in this distressing time we hope that others will be good spirited over our gifts.

Inspired by John 12:1-6

Six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany, the home of Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. There they gave a dinner for him. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those at the table with him. Mary took a pound of costly perfume made of pure nard, anointed Jesus’ feet, and wiped them with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (the one who was about to betray him) said, “Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and the money given to the poor?” (He said this not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he kept the common purse and used to steal what was put into it.)

I Will Rise Above It All

I Will Rise Above It All

Will it be:  "I'm so disgusted with my life.  I don't know what I believe anymore."  Or: My life may seem dire, but there is a light inside me that says, "Today I will rise above it all.'  I don't worry.  I'm content."

God glorified Jesus so that you may know Him.  Enrich your relationship with the One who knows what you go through  and what you need.  Living with a joyful  heart will get you through today's troubles.

Inspired by John 8:54-59

Jesus said to the Jews,"If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing, it is my Father who glorifies me, he of whom you say, 'He is our God,' though  you do not know him.  But I know him; if I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you.  But I do know him and I keep his words.  Your ancestor Abraham rejoicd that he would see my day; he saw it and was glad."  Then the Jews said to him, "You are not yet fifty yeras old, and have you seen Abraham?"  Jesus said to them, "Very truly, I tll you, before Abraham ws I am."  So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

Straighten The Bend In The Road

Straighten The Bend In The Road

Will it be: “Oh please, the world is falling apart around you and you can stand there and say you didn’t know!” Or: “It would be hard for anyone to want to believe the truth. But now that you see it is true, I believe you will do what’s right.”

At the point that we become aware of the truth, it is then that we must act on it. Straighten the bend in your own road and then help your neighbor to travel on a better path.

Inspired by John 7:25-30

Now some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, “Is not this the man whom they are trying to kill? And here he is, speaking openly, but they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Messiah? Yet we know where this man is from; but when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.” Then Jesus cried out as he was teaching in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I am from. I have not come on my own. But the one who sent me is true, and you do not know him. I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.” Then they tried to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come.

Cast The First Compliment

Cast The First Compliment

Will it be: “Don’t talk to him, he said some cruel things about me.” Or: “I don’t hold it against him. We all have bad days. I have said unkind things that I regret.”

Rather than highlighting one’s faults, catch someone doing something right. Casting the first compliment rather than the first stone is love. Love is what you are made of!

Inspired by John 8:2-11

Early in the morning Jesus came again to the temple. All the people came to him and he sat down and began to teach them. The scribes the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery; and making her stand before all of them, they said to him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They said this to test him, so that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let anyone among you who is without sin, be the first to throw a stone at her.” And once again he bent down and wrote on the ground. When they heard it, they went away, one by one, beginning with the elders; and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him, Jesus straightened up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, sir.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.”
The Gift of Love

Will it be: “I know I have family and friends, but I feel so alone.” Or: When I take the focus off myself the gift of the love penetrates my heart and I smile again."

The gift of love is only a gift if it’s offered and accepted. Acknowledge God’s love for you and then share it. The world may not be in your corner today, but God is.

Inspired by John 8:28-30

Jesus said to the Jews, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will realize that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own, but I speak these things as the Father instructed me. And the one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him.” As he was saying these things, many believed in him.

The Truth Will Set You Free

The Truth Will Set You Free

Will it be: “Face it, you’re screwed!” Or: “Don’t let the truth destroy you. There is something better waiting for you.”

God wants us to love and hope when disappointment is present, when all is status quo and when the world seems a-l-m-o-s-t perfect! Following in Jesus’ footsteps will take us through life and all the way to heaven!

Inspired by John 8:31-32.

Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

The Light Shines In You

The Light Shines In You

Will it be: “You used to be compassionate and thoughtful. What hardened you?” Or: “People like being around you. I can’t help but feel like that too.”

Being a burning and shining lamp in a dim world is appealing to our spirit and is the message to us from the life of Christ. Let the light shine in you to illuminate your little corner of the world.

Inspired by John 5:31-36

Jesus said to the Jews, “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. There is another who testifies on my behalf, and I know that his testimony to me is true. You send messengers to John, and he testified to the truth. Not that I accept such human testimony, but I say these things so that you may be saved. He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. But I have a testimony greater than John’s.”

Good Will Come

Good Will Come

“Will it be: “I trusted in you and you let me down”. Or: “God is gracious and merciful to all. Although I may not see it now, good will come from this too.”

God doesn’t use our circumstances to kill our spirit or bring disappointment into our lives. He uses our circumstances so that we may see His greatness!

Inspired by Psalm 145:8-9, 13-14

The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and his compassion is over all that he has made. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. The Lord is faithful in all his words, and gracious in all his deeds. The Lord upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who area bowed down.

Now I Live Free

Now I Live Free

Will it be: “I want get over the pain of the past, but I can’t do it.” Or: “I prayed, ‘Lord, I want be healed from the past.’ Then one day I said it and believed that through God it could be. I now live free from all that held me hostage.”

Inspired by John 5:1-3, 5-9

After this there was a festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a pool, called in Hebrew Beth-zatha, which has five porticoes. In these lay man invalids –blind, lame, and paralyzed. One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been there a long time, he said to him, Do you want to be made well?” The sick many answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; and while I am making my way, someone else steps down ahead of me.” Jesus said to him, Stand up, take your mat and walk.” At once the man was made well, and he took up his mat and began to walk.

Great Spiritual Rewards

Great Spiritual Rewards

Will it be: “I can do no wrong. I’m on top of the world.” Or: “I am always grateful and humble about my success. As quickly as it comes it can be taken away.

To live humbly in attitude and deed is one of life’s greatest spiritual rewards. It is only then that favor and mercy of God is truly revealed and experienced. Lord help me to turn away from a self-righteous attitude so that I may enjoy the incredible gift of your mercy and love that you offer me each day.

Inspired by Luke 18:9-14

He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded others with contempt: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself was praying thus, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people; thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.”
