Happy New You

Happy New You

“Happy New Year!” “Clean slate.” “Start over.” “It’s a new day.” “Cast cares.”

In this precious moment, this new blessed morning, this awe inspiring day and new grace filled year live with a heart willing to receive the gifts of God’s joy and peace. Celebrate the “Happy New You” as you live in the presence of God.

Inspired by John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.

Everyday Blessings

Everyday Blessings

"Yes! I've got my dream job! Thank You God!"  "We've been approved for the house.  The Lord was with us."  ". . . and then OMG I drove off with my new car. " "Two pulls and I hit the jackpot! The Lord knows I needed it."

The blessings are there always.  Fill yourself with the widsom of God so that you will see more than the icing on the cake.

Inspired by Luke 2:36-40

Luke 2:36-40

There was also a prophet, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped there with fasting and prayer night and day. At that moment she came, and began to praise God and to speak about the child to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. When they had finished everything required by the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favour of God was upon him.

The Power of Peace

The Power of Peace

“He says black, you say white.” “Why do you always have to have the last word?” “Don’t you ever see rainbows after the rain?”

Choose carefully battles worth fighting. Let go of the rest. The more you live in peace the less conflict will consume you. You have influence over everything that touches your life.

Inspired by Luke 2:25-32

Luke 2:25-32

Guided by the Spirit, Simeon came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what was customary under the law, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying, "Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel."

Love Never Fails

Love Never Fails

“The signs were there.  I did not act on them.” “I know she needs help. But why me.” "I wish we were still friends. But he has to say he's sorry first."

Console the hurt, lift up the righteous, take care of the sick, and forgive without condition. Respond with love. Love never fails.

Inspired by Matthew 2:13-18

When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, he was infuriated, and he sent and killed all the children in and around Bethlehem who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had learned from the wise men. Then was fulfilled what had been spoken through the prophet Jeremiah: "A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled, because they are no more."

What A Gift!

What A Gift!

“I’m so glad Christmas is over, I am so tired.” “I spent way too much money this year.”

Christmas is not a chore or a time to stress or get into debt. Christmas has just begun. Spend your life rejoicing and celebrating God’s glorious gift to you. The promise of everlasting life to those who believe.

Inspired by John 20:2-8.

John 20: 1a, 2-8

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, 'They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.' Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went towards the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed.

Rock Steady

Rock Steady

“You may never talk to me again, but I say this with love . . . you’re wrong.”

Support what is right even if others desert you. The rock of your foundation, the steadiness beneath your feet, and the influence of your soul will be revealed. At the end of the day, take delight in who you’ve become, “God’s messenger of love.”

Inspired by Luke 1:57-66

Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her. On the eight day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him Zechariah after his father. But his mother said, “No; he is to be called John.” They said to her, “None of your relatives has this name.” Then they began motioning to his father to find out what name he wanted to give him. He asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And all of them were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue freed, and he began to speak, praising God. Fear came over all their neighbors, and all these things were talked about throughout the entire hill country of Judea. All who heard them pondered them and said, “What then will this child become?” For, indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him.

Christmas Traditions

The shopping is done, the gifts are wrapped and the food is prepared. It’s time to gather with your family this Christmas and begin, renew or continue with traditions that will last for generations to come.

(Play two beautiful holiday songs. In a dim room have children slowly process into room with different pieces of nativity sets and unlit candles of all sizes from different families’ homes. Then when a beautiful scene has been created have someone light the candles and lead your family in prayer – while music is still playing.)

A Christmas Day/Eve Prayer

From All of Us

Our New Tradition

Dear God,

We are thankful that on this Day (Eve) of Christmas we, along with millions of people around the world, are celebrating together the miraculous birth of Your Son, Jesus Christ.

We are grateful for our family and friends who have safely traveled near and far to be together on Christmas. Our decorations and beautiful lights serve as gentle reminders of the star filled night of Your son’s birth.

The Christmas tree which represents eternal life is in the midst of our homes putting Christ at the center of our lives --and we pray --together --for His presence every day of the year.

Tonight (Today) we gather around the tree to share the gift of giving and honor Jesus on this glorious holy night (Day).

We thank you Lord for blessing us with food to eat, and acknowledge our gift of abundance while so many others have less or none. We pray that the less fortunate are not forgotten and have received blessings from others who are near them.

We pray that we become compassionate people that will serve one another and please you.

We offer this (new) tradition tonight as a reminder to ourselves and to our future heirs that we share and will keep alive the “true meaning of Christmas” for generations to come.

It is through Christ’s birth and resurrection that we have hope of reuniting with all those who have gone before us -- and who will go after us to their rest, especially . . .

[name all the departed - show slide show],

and all others who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again.

Dear Jesus,

We pray that through God’s grace they are in Your midst celebrating the mystery of your birth, for everyday in Heaven is Christmas and that every person who passes from this earth will be in your presence.

On this Holy night we pray together for the world to be at peace and united in love and that the spirit of Christmas will live on in our daily lives.

Jesus, we ask this in your name, Amen!

Alone With My Thoughts

Alone With My Thoughts

Quiet, I can’t hear myself think!” “I’m busy, busy, busy!”

Too much ruckus and too little stillness will weaken your strengths and cover up your blemishes. Take a time-out often to refine “you.” What or who does your soul magnify?

Inspired by Luke 1:46-56

And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.” And Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months and then returned to her home.

Blessings in the Clouds

“I didn’t plan for this!” “This is not how my life was supposed to workout!”

It’s our choice to wither the storms and believe that God has sunny mornings in store. Blessings in the clouds. Rainbows in the sky. Do you see them?

Inspired by Luke 1:39-45

In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leapt for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.

Save Your Soul

Save Your Soul

"Save the planet. Save our resources. Save the whales."

Don’t stop caring about tomorrow, but be an active advocate for your personal eternity. Take care of what is precious, “Save your soul”.

Train yourself to speak with spirituality on your tongue faithfulness in your thoughts, and generiosity in your acts.

What will the world be like when the next generation grows up?  The future depends on what we do today.

Inspired by Matthew 11:11-15

Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one has arisen greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John came; and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. Let anyone with ears listen!

Let it be! Let it be! Let it be!

Let it be! Let it be! Let it be!

If we willingly endure, accept and work through our trials, illnesses, challenging personalities, and boring work we will see, appreciate and reap the rewards, joy and love that come from God in the most trying and unexpected of times.

Mary bore the Son of God. “Here I am the servant of the Lord, let it be with me according to your word.”

Rather than scowl and bear it, beam and trust that God has got your back!

Let it be! Let it be! Let it be!

Inspired by Luke 1:26:38

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. And he came to her and said, "Greetings, favoured one! The Lord is with you." But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."

A Diamond In The Rough

A Diamond In The Rough

"I know she's my blood, but what she's done is unforgivable." "Why do you pay so much attention to her all she does is try to hurt you?" "You said you gave me the money. Now your asking for it back? I don't have it to give." "How could you forgive him, after all he's done to you?" "I will not care for that man! Why should I stay with him just because he's sick. He was cruel to me."

Jesus asked His disciples to give without expecting back. No only that, He asked them to cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers and cast out demons. Too boot, He asked them to seek out only the lost sheep. Jesus saw that the people were harassed and helpless and He knew there was a lot of work to do. He could not do it alone.

Today is no exception there are so many people who are lost and need help. We still give conditionally, shun sinners, keep our distance from the mentally and physcially sick.

We too are disciples who are called to help Jesus spread love. Jesus showed us that by softening our hearts many can be healed, comforted and saved from demons in their lives.

Be a rare gem and respond with kindness and clarity when someone lashes out at you. Sparkle with forgiveness toward someone who has hurt you, Offer a smile to be treasured in the face of a frown. Take a gift to and compliment someone who rejects you. There are beautiful pearls in oysters that just happened to develop into different colors, shapes and sizes. Seek out the beauty within.

At times it may be extremely difficult and challenging to do what seems to be against the grain of society. But do not lose heart. The more you practice, the easier it will get and the more people will begin to accept your satchel of love.

You are not like everyone else. Thanks be to God he created a priceless gem in you. Enjoy being God's diamond in the rough.

Inspired by Matthew 9:35-10:1, 6-8

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.'

Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, proclaim the good news, "The kingdom of heaven has come near." Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment.

On Solid Ground

On Solid Ground

“Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall . . .” “I guess he took his life because he thinks he didn’t matter. How could we have known . . .” “It’s not because of any illness that she can’t hold herself up anymore. It’s sheer laziness.”

We can’t take for granted that people will do what they need to do to stay mentally healthy and physically strong. Others can’t do the job for you either. However, we can help each other.

Read encouraging articles and be an optimistic leader. Surround yourself with positive thinkers. Choose a church, social group and/or books that will increase your spiritual well being. Walk the dog or walk your spouse! Do what ever it takes to get moving. A dance class can be fun or what the heck, dance in the kitchen! A great way to stay motivated is to join a gym so that you can make a habit of strengthen the body that will carry you through life.

Who wants to do it alone? No I! While you are on that self inspiring road, take someone by the hand to join you.

We can do it together one positive conversation, good deed, and prayer at a time. Go show the world that you are standing on solid ground!

Inspired by Matthew 7: 21, 24-27

Jesus said to the people "Not everyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord", will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only one who does the will of my Father in heaven. "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!"

I Am In The Right Place

I Am In The Right Place

The walls look to have a cast of gray, although the paint is a shade of white. Even though I have more than enough lamps, there’s still not enough light in the house. I look forward to the delivery of mail because sometimes the young man will chat with me for a minute. My dog died 10 years ago, his bed still lies there. The evenings are the hardest time of my day. I miss my wife. I have no children. I can’t sleep in my bed. This chair is enough for me.

* * *

The huge crowds’ roar was so voluminous that it sounded like an immense machine’s drone. The people in the stadium stood side by side clad in their team colors.

I was only one of thousands who felt the powerful connection to my neighbor. We stood proud as if we were an army who had seen our team through a war and came up in victory.

As we looked down to the players on the field we witnessed the connection between the squad of men. Their determined eyes, strong jaws and lips spoke of a combination of grit, willpower and pride. Tonight we knew we would witness every ounce of the blood, sweat, and fortitude it took for the team to get to this climactic triumphant point.

* * *
The devout members of the choir had practiced week after week until they had their parts down to perfection. They sang in their cars, in the shower and in their sleep striving for flawless notes. I had no doubt that the sound would be miraculous.

When the first subtle utterance of holy and downy voices drifted up to the cathedral ceiling rafters my heart leaped with unreserved joy. The incredible six part harmony caused the hair on my arms to stand up on end. Breathtakingly, the piano, organ, drums, chimes, and symbols delightfully and magically filled in tiniest of apt spaces.

Uncharacteristically, the people in the pews sat up tall and their attention was such that the only sounds were those coming from the gifted musicians and those special angelic vocal intonations. I was emotionally moved beyond any faithful moment I could ever recall.

Then, divinely, it happened. Touched by an extraordinary blessed spirit that had finally made its way to the surface of my being, emotive tears fell from my once conventional eyes. Without thinking I was guided and smoothly slid from my seat and slipped into a genuflection foreign to me. I fell to my knees, my inner spirit in awe, and I felt for the first time the presence of God.

* * *
In our everyday lives it is easy to get caught up in depression or the tedious tasks of life and seek no company further than the walls of our homes. Living this way can make us feel disconnected, lonely and like prisoners in our own dwellings. In contrast to others who seem to be able to easily connect and adapt to more interactive lifestyles. Some people thrive on excitement and seek to be a part of a movement or a celebration that takes then out of their ordinary existence.

Mindlessly and dangerously we can place ourselves in the midst of chaos, commotion, and gossip. There are so many ways to fill voids, kill time, seek companionship and find our purpose.

Belonging is a natural yearning of the heart. The heart’s purpose is to love. God, Its creator, is love.

Love is belonging no matter who we are. Our age, skin color, occupation, monetary and social status have no bearing on love.

To know the greatest depth of love is to know God. We must take time from our solitude, busyness, work, and play and get to know Him.

Enjoy the sunrises and sunsets that incredibly takes us from one day to the next. Appreciate the beauty and scents of meadows of flowers, fruit orchards and forests. Marvel at the twinkle of the illuminated stars and planets tucked in the night sky. Savor the precious water that sustains us. Exercise your body and give it required rest so that this incredible miraculous creation of God will work for you as He intended.

Be an active part and positive voice in God’s Church. His Church is where you are. It consists of who you socialize with and what you choose to talk about.

God also invites you to share your love and worship in His Church in your neighborhood, in the next county, state or even in a foreign land.

Most importantly, you can enjoy God’s presence not only on Sundays, but everyday of the week, and at any moment you choose.

“For He is our God, and we are the people He shepherds, the flock he guides.” Psalm 95:7.

You belong when you put yourself in the right place, among loving people, that causes the best spirit to come from you.

Tis the Season

Tis the Season

The aroma of turkey fills the house and delectable desserts are abundant. Joyful holiday music makes for jolly attitudes and tasks seem easier. People shop for the perfect gift.

In the Catholic Church the start of the Advent Season begins this Sunday. Use these days that lead up to Christmas to recall what Jesus came here to do for you. Include Him in your thoughts and plans. After all, it’s all about Him!

Enjoy quiet prayerful moments. Worship in Church and spend time with family, friends, the sick and the lonely.

God’s love for you is absolute. He proved His love by giving His Only Son for You. He is present at every straight and treacherous turn, in every surprise and roadblock, at live savings and life taking moments. As sure as the sun will rise, the moon will shine, and the earth will produce food and water, God will be there.

Look for Him, He’s everywhere. Feel His love, it’s always protecting you. Take His hand, He’s always leading you.

There is so much to be thankful for. The Lord knows, “I am thankful that you do not reject the words that come to me from Him. God bless you.

LiVe LiKe YoU BeLiEvE!

Inspired by Luke 21:29-31

Then Jesus told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves and know that summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near.”

You’re a Superstar!

You’re a Superstar!

“I wouldn’t know what to say. I want to help her, but I know nothing about these kinds of things.” “I can’t come to his defense although I know he’s right. It’s pitiful, I know. But I’m afraid of making others angry.”

We hide behind excuses and impose unnecessary pressure on ourselves while disappointing others for the wrong reasons. Stand up to a good and moral challenge and buck up when someone desperately needs your help. The rights words will come when your heart is in the right place. This is no rehearsal, you are always in the spotlight. Be an extraordinary superstar!

Inspired by Luke 21:12-19

Jesus said to his disciples, “But before all this occurs, they will arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. This will give you an opportunity to testify. So make up your minds not to prepare your defense in advance; for I will give you words and wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name. But not a hair on your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your souls.”

Crazy Love

Crazy Love

“He drives me crazy. I don’t know if I can do this anymore.” “Sweetheart, it is not he who is difficult. Stop trying to change him into you. He is a good man. His character and love for you and your child are greater than any of his faults. Love who he is.

Know what you can count on. God loves you and sends you blessings every day. He has a place for you. The end of life will come. Love today what God created. See love rather than conflict. Turn away from nit-picky judgments of others that keep you from being free to enjoy your blessings.

Inspired by Luke 21:5-9.

When some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, Jesus said, “As for these things that you see the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down.” They asked him, “Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?” And he said, “Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say, “I am he!’ and, ‘The time is near!’ Do not go after them. When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately.

The Outer Limits

The Outer Limits

“Can you spare a dime?” “Sorry, this is my last 20 bucks.” “I’ve got nowhere to go.” “You must have someone you can stay with.”

When and how do you give? Could you give more than what you can safely spare? Could you offer a warm comfortable bed to a person suffering a hardship? Go to the outer limits of your being. Give beyond your comfort zone, reach outside your security, and dig deeper than the surplus in your pocketbook. God blesses those who bless others. Your gifts to others will be remembered by the Lord.

Luke 21:1-4

Jesus looked up and saw rich people putting their gifts into the treasury; he also saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. He said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; for all of them have contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put all in she had to live on.”

Because I Can

Because I Can

Because I have hands
I will cook you a meal
and enjoy the thought
of pleasing you

Because I can see
I look forward to making
your day easier

Because I can hear

I can give comfort
in your time of need

Because I can speak
I will offer encouraging words
to help you succeed

Because you are you
and I am me
I will hug, kiss and welcome you home

Because I can.

Feed Your Spirit

“Stop already! You are so negative!”

When the urge to gripe strikes you, let it do just that. What you feed your soul comes out of your mouth!

Feed your spirit with love so that your words are hopeful to the ears, encouraging to the heart, and something pleasing to emulate.

Inspired by Psalm 33(34):1-4

I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes it boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

No Pressure

No Pressure

“How could you want to help her, she hates you?” “I mean it. If you help him again, I’m out of here!”

Don’t buckle under foolish pressure. It is right to help another even if it is not appreciated and others do not understand. Pray that through your consistent example of giving without condition the difficult will be transformed.

Inspired by Luke 19:1-10

Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through it. A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax-collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today.” So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. All who saw it began to grumble and said, “He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner.” Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, half of my possessions Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much.” Then Jesus said to him, “Today I will pay back four times as much.” Then Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.”

I Can See Clearly Now

I can see clearly now

We don’t need our eyesight to get excited about free food, a day off work, or an unexpected bonus! However, we do need our spiritual vision so that we can get excited about Jesus being so close that we can taste heaven!

Inspired by Luke 18:35-43

As he approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard a crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” Then he shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Those who were in front sternly ordered him to be quiet; but he shouted even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stood still and ordered the man to be brought to him; and when he came near, he asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord let me see again.” Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has saved you.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him, glorifying God; and all the people, when they saw it, praised God.

These Precious Moments

These Precious Moments

“Why did he get the job? I’ve been here longer.” “How could you die and leave me! There was so much I wanted to say to you!”

Longevity isn’t the element that makes you valuable or your relationships precious.

Give beyond expectations and savor the relationships you have today, so if tomorrow does not come you will have no regrets.

Inspired by Luke 17:26-36

Just as it was in the days of Noah, so too it will be in the days of the Son of Man. They were eating and drinking, and marrying and being given in marriage until the day Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed all of them. Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot: they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, but on the day that Lot left Sodom, it rained fire and sulfur from heaven and destroyed all of them-it will be like that on the day that the Son of Man is revealed. On that day, anyone on the housetop who has belongings in the house must not come down to take them away; and likewise anyone in the field must not turn back. Remember Lot’s wife. Those who try to make their life secure will lose it, but those who lose their life will keep it. I tell you, on that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. There will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken and the other left.

Praise! Praise! Praise!

Praise! Praise! Praise!

“Yeah, good things happen for me, but never like that.” “Who am I going to thank. I did all the work.”

It’s not the size of your blessings that should be what matters. Be thankful because you were blessed with an outcome in your favor, a peaceful night or a matter that changed your life. God goes to great trouble to line up lives, using their sufferings, wealth and hearts to help you.

Nurture your soul and develop a thankful spirit that praises God for even the most insignificant matters.

Inspired by Luke 17:11-19

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked “Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.”

Journey With the Saints

The goal of all our undertaking should not be so much a task perfectly completed but the accomplishment of the will of God.

St. Therese of Lisieux

The heart is rich when it is content, and it is always content when its desires are fixed on God.  Nothing can bring greater happiness than doing God's will for the love of God.

Blessed Miguel Febres Cordero-Munoz

I know my own and my own know me.

“I know my own and my own know me.”

What kind influence do you have over your spouse, parents, children, friends, even strangers? Are you a virtuous leader in your home, church, or workplace?

By God's you have the ability to effectively sway others. Set high standards for yourself. Don’t ask others to accept you, your morals and values as anything less that something upright, honest and upstanding.

God gave us Jesus, the Good Shepherd, to imitate. Jesus gave us hope and an eternal future. This same hope took hold of the disciples, everyday men - His sheep, and they were willing to put themselves out there for all to see, support and ridicule. The disciples believed and carried out an extraordinary mission in the name of Christ. Today, this same remarkable mission is yours to carry out!

God so loved the world that He gave his Only Son. With that same incredible power of love, be an outstanding model for others to imitate.

Inspired by John 10:11-16

Jesus said to the Pharisees, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away-and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.”

The Best of You

The Best of You

“I have to let you go. You have not done the job you were hired to do.” “It’s too late. You’ve had many opportunities to step it up.”

A paycheck, position on a team, a part in a play or a relationship is not given or shared for a complacent attitude or mediocre performance. The reward should be well earned and not taken for granted.

Sleep, mindlessness and rest are for the night. The day light is for the world to see God’s best work in you.

Inspired by John 10:11-16

Then Jesus said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was squandering his property. So he summoned him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Give me an accounting of your management, because you cannot be my manager any longer.’ Then the manager said to himself, ‘What will I do, now that my master is taking the position away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. I have decided what to do so that, when I am dismissed as manager, people may welcome me into their homes.’ So, summing his master’s debtors one by one, he asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ He answered, ‘A hundred jugs of olive oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it fifty.’ Then he asked another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ He replied, ‘A hundred containers of wheat.’ He said to him, ’Take your bill and make it eighty.’ And his master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly; for the children of this age are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than are the children of light.”

Precious Time

Precious Time

“I gave you a chance and you blew it.” “’No’ means ‘no,’ what part of that don’t you understand?”

There is a threshold for everyone. However, it is the wrath of God you should concern yourself with.

Save yourself while there’s time. Live with God’s wisdom, love as He loves, be merciful, kind and forgiving. Walk through the narrow door although it may seem too restricted a corridor. God promises the destination to be heavenly.

Inspired by Luke 13:22-30

Jesus went through one town and village after another, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?” He said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able. When once the owner of the house has got up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, “Lord, open to us,’ then in reply he will say to you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’ Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ But he will say, ‘I do not know where you come from; go away from me, all you evildoers!’ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrown out. Then people will come from east and west, from north and south, and will eat in the kingdom of God. Indeed, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”

Ordinary Yet Northworthy

Ordinary Yet Noteworthy

“What is it like to be rich, famous, or to win the lotto?” “What is it like to love the unloved, to face challenges that deepen our spirit, to be an integral part of humanity that seeks all that is good.”

Spend your time enjoying the simplicity of your life. What is ordinary, without glitz and glamour, gains more that fame and does get noticed by the One who counts.

Inspired by Luke 13:10-17

He said therefore, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what should I compare it? It is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in the garden; it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.” And again he said, “To what should I compare the kingdom of God? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.”

Seize the Moments

Seize the Moments

"It’s not my turn to help."  "I’m too busy now, but I’ll go back to church one day."

We make excuses not to help others or ourselves. What if Jesus one day decided it wasn’t the right time to save you from your illness, your mother’s recovery from surgery, or grant your father mercy at the time of his death just because He didn’t feel like it.

Serve others when the opportunity presents itself. God sacrificed His Son for you. Seize the moments as you pay it forward.

Inspired by Luke 13:10-17

Now Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And just then there appeared a woman with a spirit that had crippled her for eighteen years. She was bent over and was quite unable to stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your ailment.” When he laid his hands on her, immediately she stood up straight and began praising God. But the leader of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had cured on the Sabbath, kept saying to the crowd, “There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be cured, and not on the Sabbath day.” But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger, and lead it away to give it water? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham who Satan bound for eighteen long years be set free from this bondage on the Sabbath day?” When he said this, all his opponents were put to shame; and the entire crowd was rejoicing at all the wonderful things that he was doing.

Own It

Own It

“Don’t take that next step, you’re going to fall!” “If you drop out now, you’ll never finish school.” We see it so clearly, the danger in our next steps. Why is it we turn a blind eye to things that matter to God. Shacking up, sex without marriage, coveting other’s property, and using God’s name in vein. The next time someone says, “I don’t like that. I don’t do that. It’s not right.” Ask questions. Examine their morals. Breathe life into the morals you’ve let die and own the ones you’ve never known.

Inspired by Luke 13:6-9

"Jesus also said to the crowds, When you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say, 'It is going to rain'; and so it happens. And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat’; and it happens. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time? And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? Thus, when you go with your accuser before a magistrate, on the way make an effort to settle the case, or you may be dragged before the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer throw you in prison. I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the very last penny.”

PEACE. LET IT BEGIN WITH ME.

PEACE. LET IT BEGIN WITH ME.

To be an instrument of peace seems to be quite the opposite in task. It can be challenging to work with and help others. To live with another in harmony is a w-h-o-l-e other story. It’s great if we are on the same page to reach just, moral and honest resolutions. But, how real is that? The reality is many of us are inherently programmed and would feel completely satisfied to “get even!” Oh, how it goes against our nature to do the right thing!

NAGGY WOMEN AND DIRTY SOCKS!

Come on now ladies, instead of picking up your husband’s dirty socks and putting them in his pillow case to teach him a lesson, simply take a few extra steps and with love place them in the laundry basket. And say to him, “Honey, I saw that your poor little socks didn’t have legs of their own, so I helped them to the laundry basket. Snoopy and his friends were very happy for the help.” Tell me that wouldn’t bring a smile to both your faces. Okay, it might cause him to say you’ve gone wacko! But . . . Maybe next time he would take care of the little task himself. Okay, maybe not. But you would stop being a nag and your inevitable “chore” – oh I mean – “cool walk with the socks,” would take you off the nag list and keep peace in the home!

“What did you do today,” hubby innocently asked.  You can breath in and out forcefully through your nostrils and retort angrily at him, “Pick up after you."  Or . . . you can say playfully, “I took Snoopy and friends for a walk. Do you think you could take them tomorrow?” Can’t blame a girl for trying.

BULLIES ON THE PLAYGROUND

Instead of avoiding that kid that you feel intimades you, walk up to him and ask him to help you with something he's good at.  Yes, even bullies have some good attributes.  You may be more comfortable taking a friend with you for support (you might choose a friend who is a bit nerdy rather than a toughy first time out - or not) . Nonetheless say, “Hey Jack, I see that you are pretty good at basketball (math, woodshop, whatever). I don’t know much about the sport. Do you think you could give me a few pointers?” Without waiting for an answer, continue, “ I’m ready pretty much anytime. Let me know when you’re free. Look to the others in the group and say, “Hey guys. Catch you later (or “see you around” - or whatever the lingo young people use today). Smile and walk away.

In conflict breaking the ice is an important first step. Asking someone for help gives the thick skinned guy a chance to gloat a bit and it will make him less likely to retaliate. You may have to try more than once to see him lighten up a bit. It’s very hard to frown when a smile is kindly looking your way. It will also be hard for him to treat you like dirt in front of his friends. Of course you can always pray that they are all not total punks.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained!  Have some faith. David stood up to Goliath! No need for a slingshot, just be yourself. With the right attitude, God will work miracles through you.

WOMEN. I JUST DON’T GET THEM! WHAT DOES SHE WANT FROM ME!

Agggh, men, you work too hard. When women tell a story, share a problem or give a boring blow by blow encounter they are not usually doing it to “get a fix” from you. Sometimes they solve their problem as they are speaking (go figure). But chances are they’ve got the problem solved already. They’re not complaining, just explaining. If you want to satisfy the gal in your life, “just listen.” Women enjoy a good silent ear!
Don’t get bugged if her solution is different from yours or right out crazy. Who cares! She’s got to deal with what follows. You can never go wrong with saying something simple like, “Honey, I have confidence and I know you will figure it out. You always do.” Give her a big smooch and a hug (and mean it!)! She’ll look at you like your on drugs. But at the end of day when she reflects on the ups and downs, she’ll smile when she remembers your kind words that didn’t judge, but rather loved. Who knows, you might get a home cooked meal instead of take out!

Set The World On Fire!

Set the World on Fire!

"I don’t want to make waves.” “If I do, I know I won’t be very popular.” “I’m not a religious freak. I’m working my way to Heaven.” If it’s the right thing to do it will probably be hard. People get defensive, cynical and cause division in the face of righteousness. But Jesus proved that those who stick together in His name are the elite in Heaven. Go out and ignite the world! Let your love burn like fire. When the furor is over, God’s peace will prevail.

Live like you believe.

Inspired by Luke 12:49-53

“I came to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! I have a baptism with which to be baptized, and what stress I am under until it is completed! Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division! From now on five in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three; they will be divided; father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

Happy, Happy,Joy, Joy!

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!

How can you find happiness when things don’t quite go right? Are you happy about the outcome of a challenging conversation or relationship? Are you pleased with the results of your work that didn’t go quite right? When you offer your help do people make you feel unappreciated? Do you feel less valued when you reach out and are rejected by another?

God is your biggest fan! He wants to see you happy. No matter what you do, think, or say, He still loves you. Even when you take a step backwards, he still has hope that you’ll come around. He there’s for you again and again and again!

Don’t gauge your self-worth based on another’s opinion of you. Stick with God and His way he’ll let you know if you are on the right track.

God knows who you are, he made you! When someone believes in us we are capable of more than we can imagine.

With a friend who knows what we need, when we need it, nothing can take your delightful spirit away!  Happy, happy, joy, joy! What a way to live!

LiVe LiKe YoU BeLiEvE!

Yes, I'm Ready

Yes, I'm Ready

Would you leave your sick mother or your minor children with strangers? If you returned earlier than expected what would you find?

Jesus is coming, that is certain. The day and hour are unknown. Get to know Him and be ready for the best part of your life.

Let me hear you say, "Yes, I'm ready!"

Inspired by Luke 12:39-44

Jesus said, “But know this: if the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour.” Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for everyone?” And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and prudent manager whom his master will put in charge of his slaves, to give them their allowance of good at the proper time? Blessed is that slave whom his master will find at work when he arrives. Truly I tell you, he will put that one in charge of all his possessions.”

Inside Out

Inside Out

We place importance on how we look to others on the outside and dress according to our activity. We may take extra care when dressing for church, a wedding or funeral. When God looks in on you, what will he find in your spirit that lives inside? If we are not nourished from the inside, what adorns the outside may never be noticed.

Inspired by Luke 12:35-38

Jesus said to his disciples, “Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit; be like those who are waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet, so that they may open the door for him as soon as he comes and knocks. Blessed are those slaves whom the master finds alert when he comes; truly I tell you, he will fasten his belt and have them sit down to eat, and he will come and serve them. If he comes during the middle of the night, or near dawn, and finds them so, so blessed are those slaves.”

Live Like You Believe!

God waits patiently for you to take quiet time to mediate on His word. He looks forward to you knowing Him. Enjoy the blessing of your free will of mind and spirit. As often as you can, fill yourself with God's word and surround yourself with spirit filled people.

Each moment you spend with God you are sure to grow. Each time you reach out to someone in love they will prosper too.

Everything begins and ends with God. God is love. You are his child and He did His best work when he created you. Be an inspiration to others.

Live like you believe!

I Am Not Alone

I Am Not Alone

“I stood up for you because it was the right thing to do. And now you’re siding with the people who harmed you.” “It doesn’t matter that no one else gets it. I get it. And I know God is with me.”

Don’t think for a moment that you are ever completely alone. People can be fickle and self-serving. But God is sure and steadfast.

Inspired by 2 Timothy 4:16-17b

At my first defense no one came to my support, but all deserted me. May it not be counted against them! But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it.

I've Got Spirit, Yeah, Yeah!

I’ve Got Spirit, Yeah, Yeah!

“He’s got guts!” “She’s got strength.” “We’ve got determination.” There are many kinds of spirit. When utilized it takes us beyond our limits. God knows what you are capable of, but do you? Tap into your “spirit”. It’s going to take you higher!

Inspired by Romans 8:26-27

The Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Oh no, not I!

Oh no, not I!

Just because the world does disapproving things, doesn’t mean you should also nor does it make it right. There are many things we do to condone the bad behavior of another. We can close our eyes, gives excuses for them, and even support them by purchasing goods illegally copied or obtained. Break the chain of sinful behavior. Be honest with another about your convictions. Refuse to buy that new television, cell phone, or dvd that came from a source on the street, a friend of a friend, or even your own relative. You may as well have been part of the original bad deed yourself. You are better than that. Begin today to stand up to those around you and let them know who you are, what you stand for, and be clear about what you will not tolerate or be a part of!

Inspired by Luke 11:47-51

Jesus said to the lawyers, “Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets whom your ancestors killed. So you are witnesses and approve of the deeds of your ancestors; for they killed them, and you build their tombs. Therefore also the Wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’ so that this generation may be charged with the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it will be charged against this generation.”

I Am Alive!

I Am Alive!

“Wanted dead or alive.” A great line from an old western movie. Don’t wait until the final scene to know the end of your story. Make each day a worthy frame of your faith, each conversation a wonderful crescendo and passage to the next, each night’s sleep a refreshing new beginning. Don’t just act in the film of your life. The character you betray should be genuine on and off camera. Be found alive with the spirit of God in your heart. Honor each other and be a part of justice. Live each day with these things so that the end will not be a surprise but rather expect an award in your name!

Inspired by Luke 11:42-46

But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and herbs of all kinds, and neglect justice and the love of God; it is these you ought to have practiced, without neglecting the others. Woe to you Pharisees! For you love to have the seat of honor in the synagogues and to be greeted with respect in the market-places. Woe to you! For you are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without realizing it.” One of the lawyers answered him, “Teacher, when you say these things, you insult us too.” And he said, “Woe also to you lawyers! For you load people with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not lift a finger to ease them.”

From The Inside Out

From The Inside Out

“You don’t know him. He’s nice now, but at home . . . “Don’t judge by appearances, she fools many.” “Just because you wear a team uniform doesn’t make you a team player. You’ve got to do your part.”

It does us no good to look polished and clean on the outside, when inside we judge others, wish someone ill thoughts or proclaim to be a giver but watch when someone is in trouble and do not offer a helping hand. The more you praise, the more you love, the better person you become.

There is something good to say about everyone. Seek that and say it out loud. The more you praise, the more you love, the better person you become inside and out!

Inspired by Luke 11:37-41

While Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee invited him to dine with him; so he went in and took his place at the table. The Pharisee was amazed to see that he did not first wash before dinner. Then the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. You fools! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also? So give for alms those things that are within; and see, everything will be clean for you.”

A Test of Faith

A Test of Faith

“I’ll believe it when I see it.” How many times have we said this! Why do we doubt that: a friend has forgiven you, repayment of money due you is coming, the sale of a home is possible, a better grade on a test or report card, a superior team than years past, or that pain from an ailing body will find relief.

Don’t wait for tomorrow to be a believer. Today is the day you can test your faith. Show the world you believe!

Inspired by Luke 11:29-32

When the crowds were increasing, Jesus began to say, “This generation is an evil generation; it asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so the Son of Man will be to this generation. The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the people of this generation and condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, and see, something greater than Solomon is here. The people of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the proclamation of Jonah, and see, something greater than Jonah is here!”

Nothing is Impossible!

Sometimes what seemed impossible yesterday can be in your favor today. Acknowledging those who had a part in your good fortune is always encouraged and, of course, appreciated.

But it would serve you well to send some praise to the one who created you and the one who came to save you! “Thank you Lord! It is your will and in your time that I have been blessed.”

Inspired by Luke 17:11-19

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" When he saw them, he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, "Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner? "Then he said to him, "Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well."

Dear Lord, I pray for . . .

Dear Lord, I pray for . . .

“I don’t care how much it costs to keep it up. I pray hard that I can get that expensive car!” “I ask God everyday to make me rich! Why should I share it with anyone!” “God, give me strength to get over my father’s death.” “Lord, give me a sign to know you are with me.”

God gives us what we need, when we need it. At times we will receive many answers to our prayers and at other moments it seems a stiff kick in the pants is warranted. Repercussions, consequences, rewards, and gifts of the spirit are all possible. As the old adage goes, “Be careful what you pray for, you just might get it!”

Inspired by Luke 11:5-10.

And Jesus said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and you to go him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; for a friend of mine has arrived, and I have nothing to set before him.’ And he answers from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been locked, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, at least because of his persistence he will get up and give him whatever he needs. So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches find, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Heaven on Earth

Heaven on Earth

“What do you want from life?” Is that really the most important question we can ask ourselves? “What do you have already,” would be the more appropriate question to ponder. ‘Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

As often as you can, spend quiet and quality time in prayer. Ask God to work through you so that you may be a part of revealing glimpses of heaven on earth. Enjoy the peace when you rest and celebrate with God and all the angels in heaven as you bring breaths of hope into the world. God is setting a place for you. Why wouldn’t you make heaven your daily aspiration?

Inspired by Luke 11:1-4

Jesus was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” He said to them, “when you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us. And do not bring us to the time of trial.

Get On The Right Path

Get On The Right Path

Who listens to you? What kind of influence do you have? Will you be the leader of the pack to Heaven or Hades? Don’t be a self-regulating leader. Be a follower of Jesus. That man knew where he was going. He’s worked out the “glitches,” the “what ifs”, and “buts.” Get with the program. He’s given you the way for free!

Inspired by Luke 10:13-16

“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the deeds of power done to you had been done in Tye and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But at the judgment it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to Heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades.” Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me, and whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”

“No! They can’t take that away from me!

“No! They can’t take that away from me!

“Stop from what you are doing and look at me!” We are often preoccupied by busyness. Our heads are buried in texting, computers, television, work and unproductive tasks and unhealthy relationships. It is easy to miss when the significant people in our lives need our attention and affection. Stop and smell the roses and share your gift of love. There is rewarding balance when you pause from chaos. Enjoy God’s gift of life’s precious moments. Pick up your head from the sand, there is a great view outside.

Inspired by Luke 10:38-42

Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.

Embrace The Experiences of Life

Embrace The Experiences of Life

Our lives are filled with a myriad of adventures, journeys, trials and triumphs. We experience let downs, consolations and celebrations sometimes at a high price. Live through your array of experiences with faithfulness, carry your crosses without complaint, enjoy your triumphs and losses with humility and love always at the center of your heart. When all does not go your way or as planned, be reassured in knowing there is a greater plan in your horizon.

Someone Like You

Someone Like You

We enjoy the company and support of another in our daily lives. In two’s or more, we are naturally drawn to those who think like us. Our parents have wisely said,”Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are.”

Do our friends possess good qualities, are they well-liked, do they bring peace, comfort and joy to a gathering of people?

Our relationships and circumstances do not govern our lives, rather our personal choices do. Be an example of “love” and be drawn to someone like you.

Inspired by Luke 10:1-7

After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. He said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, bu the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go on your way. See, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, “Peace to this house!” And if anyone is there who shares in peace, your peace will rest on that person; but if not, it will return to you. Remain in the same house, eating and drinking whatever they provide, for the laborer deserves to be paid.

Greater Things Than These

Greater Things Than These

Without delay we go to the side of loved ones to show love and support on special and life altering days of baptism, marriage and death.  With this same intensity of care and compassion Jesus invites us to know His Father through Him.  Live each day like you believe Jesus opened the gates of heaven.  Your eyes will be opened to the powerful hand of God.  Invite all you can to join you in this life changing and extraordinary journey.  When you move closer in your relationship to Jesus you will see greater things than these.

Inspired by John 1:47-51.

When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of  him, "Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!"  Nathanael asked him, "Where did you get to know me?" Jesus answered, "I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you."  Nathanael replied, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God!  You are the King of Israel!"  Jesus answered, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these."  And he said to him, "Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."

God Works Through Others

"Do not stop him; for whoever is not against you is for you."

Just because someone does not sit at your table, visit your home, or does not speak to you, does not mean someone could not do something in favor of you, your family or friends.

Do not denounce the good works of an outsider.  Accept good deeds, wishes, thoughts, and favors wholeheartedly from even those who others may hold the least respect.  God's work comes through a multitude or beings to help you.

Inspired by Luke 9:46-50

An argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest.  But Jesus, aware of their inner thoughts, took a little child and put it by his side, and said to them, "Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me; for the least among all of you is the greatest."  John answered, "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us."  But Jesus said to him, "Do not stop him; for whoever is not against you is for you."

Be The Light of Hope

Be The Light of Hope

"Please do not mention who I am.  I wouldn't want to be treated differently."  Whether we are affluent, well-liked, or a grave sinner, we should give and receive the same mercy that God gives us.  Be imitators of Jesus' love by treating others with dignity, compassion and fairness not because of what they have done or what they have failed to do, but because they are human beings created by God.  God can show His mercy to the gravest for all offenders.  Your mercy may be the light of hope for the serverest wrongdoer.

Inspired by Luke 9:18-22

Once when Jesus was praying alone, with only the disciples near him, he asked them, "Who do the crowds say that I am?"  They answered, "John the Baptist, Elijah; and still others, that one of the ancient prophets has arisen."  He said to them, "but who do you say that I am?"  Peter answered, "The Messiah of God.  He sternly ordered and commanded them not to tell anyone, saying, "The Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised."

Your Life's Vocation

“Why would I want to spend time with him? I don’t even know him.”

Reach out and strive to make new connections and deepen existing relationships. Your physical job compensates you with a paycheck. However, your life’s vocation gives to your heart and to others what money can’t.

An admirable human being has an unyielding praiseworthy foundation. Spend time in prayer getting connected to the Holy Spirit inside you. It will lead, guide and strengthen you all the days of your life.

Inspired by Luke 9:7-9

Now Herod the ruler heard about all that had taken place, and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead, by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the ancient prophets had arisen. Herod said, “John I beheaded, but who is this about whom I heard such things?” And he tried to see him.

All Are Welcomed In This Plaec

All Are Welcomed In This Place

“I didn’t feel welcomed there. So I left.” “Well we are glad you are here with us.”

If you don’t feel cared about, welcomed or respected then perhaps you do not belong. The burning question would be, “Are you uncomfortable because you are a negative person that works against God’s love or because those who reject you are hostile?”

Love all those who cross your path and let go of those who are imprisoned in thoughts of themselves. Your love and boldness of freedom may bring hope to another and may be an invitation to know what God is like.

Inspired by Luke 9:1-6.

Jesus called t he twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. He said to them, "Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money-not even an extra tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there, and leave from there. Wherever they do not welcome you, as you are leaving that town shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them." They departed and went through the villages, bringing the good news and curing diseases everywhere.

I just wanna celebrate!

I Just Wanna Celebrate!

"Your sister has done so well, let's celebrate!"  "Why are you making such a big deal over her?  She does one thing right and you rejoice.  I have always been good and you've had no celebrations for me."

Jesus reaches out to sinners not the virtuous.  Which are you?  One who needs His mercy or the one who will celebrate over another's success?

Be happy and satisfied knowing that you have done well and help those in need of Jesus' mercy.  Encourage others to join you in celebration when another has changed, tranformed or converted.

“I just wanna celebrate!” You need to know that I celebrate with you in your accomplishments today. Whether big or small, significant or not, my heart leaps with joy because you recognized a change for the better!

Inspired by Matthew 9:9-13

As Jesus was walking along he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, "follow me."  and he got up and followed him.  As as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting with him and his disciples.  When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"  But when he heard this,  he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.  Go and learn what this means, "I desire mercy, not sacrifice."  For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners."

I Am Soooo . . . Blessed!

I Am Sooo . . . Blessed!

"He's so lucky.  He gets everything he wants."  Are we spending time envying material things of others?  Rather speak with a thankful heart and be grateful for what you do have.  Nurture the Holy Spirit inside you that will satisfy your heart and bring beauty to your life. When our hearts are in the right place, we are not lucky, but rather BLESSED.  Look around you and see the abundant blessings that God places on your life every day.  When these things are revealed to you, share with others the goodness of God.

Inspired by Luke 8:16-18

Jesus said to his disciples, "No one after lighting a lamp hides it under a jar, or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.  For nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed, nor is anything secret that will not become known and come to light.  Then pay attention to how you listen; for to those who have, more will be given; and from those who do not have, even what they seem to have will be taken away.

I Will Not Live In Vain

I Will Not Live In Vain

We do many things in vain.  We say we love but hurt each other.  We want to be successful but are unwillng to do the work.  We think we should be respected but do not have the same regard for othres.  do we celebrate Christmas and Easter with presents but could not described the presence of Jesus in our lives?  Use His name in praise only, live like a thankful apostle, and pray to god through Jesus for his mercy on your life!

Inspired by 1 Corinthians 15:1-8

Now I should remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I proclaimed to you, which you in turn received, in which also you stand, through which also you are being saved, if  you hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you - unless you have come to believe in vain.  For I handed onto you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.  Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died.  Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.  Last of all, as to someone untimely born, he appeared also to me.

Our Paths And Views Can Change

Our Paths And Views Can Change

"I see nothing wrong with it," she said definantly.  "I do," he replied with delicate insightfulness."

In those moments of discord reflect upon your morals, beliefs, and values and decide if conversion is necessary. To say we were wrong should not be unpleasant but celebrated.  Our views should not be set in stone.

Move the rocks away from your path, the walk may be easier.

Inspired by Luke 7:31-35.

Jesus said to the people, "To what then will I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like?  They are like children sitting in the market-place and calling to one another, "We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep.'  For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, 'He has a demon;' the Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax-collectors and sinners!"  Nevertheless, wisdom is vindicated by all her children."

Pray For Change

"Did you see what she did?  How could she?"  Judgment.  We are all guilty.  How can we stop being hypocrites?  Catch youself when you've condemned another.  Growth and maturity will come when you add, "I understand.  I've done the same or worse.  This reminds me that I have many things to correct about myself.  I pray that we both change for the better."

Inspired by Luke 6:39-42

He also told them a parable:  "Can a blind person guide a blind person?  Will not both fall into a pit?  A disciple is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully qualified will be like the teacher.  Why do  you see the speck in your neighbor's eye,but do not notice the log in your own eye?  Or how can you say to your neighbor, 'Friend, let me take out the speck in your eye,' when you youself do not see the log in your own eye?  You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor's eye."

More Than A Golden Rule

"I do for you only if you do for me." What is golden about that? Do for others, friend or foe, expecting nothing in return. With regularity, charity and sincerity, offer a smile, shoulder, kind words and generous acts to all you meet. With Jesus' spirit in your heart, even your greatest enemy will have trouble staying hard-bitten. God loves you even when you are less than golden.

Inspired by Luke 6:27a, 31-36

Jesus said to his disciples, “But I say to you that listen, Do to others as you would have them do to you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and to the wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

God Is With Us

God Is With Us

Joseph and Mary found that in the quiet they heard and accepted the call from God. That simple act of meditation and trust changed their lives. Do not be afraid to be silent and still so that the calling of God on your life can be revealed. They named their son, “Emmanuel,” which means, “God is with us.” He wants to be with you. Invite and accept Him into your life so that His work through you can be shared with the world.

Inspired by Matthew 1:18-23

Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,” which means, “God is with us.”

Pray Before You Act

Pray Before You Act

“Think before you act,” is a common phrase used among us. Step up to a more divine way of thinking. “Pray before you act.” The decisions you make, the thoughts you keep, and words you speak today will affect how your life plays out. Your maker is watching and He will work for you accordingly.

Inspired by Luke 6:12-16

Now during those days he went out to the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to God. And when day came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles; Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, and James, and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James son of Alphaeus, and Simon, who was called the Zealot, and Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

Let it shine!

Let it shine!

God created you and chose you as His worthy messenger. Today allow God to work through you as you bring hope to a discouraged person, clarity to the confused, and optimism to the brokenhearted. Let those who you touch today know that today is the day the Lord has made, be happy and enjoy it! God's light in inside you. Let it shine!

Inspired by Luke 4:16-22a

When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your heart." All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth."

How long must I stay in the quiet?

“Ok, time for bed Cindy. Get under those covers now.” “Mommy, why did Tommy’s mom say that Sarah and Ryan will never change? She said they have no conscience or an ounce of love in their hearts? What does that mean?”

“Honey, you know what Sarah and Ryan did was not right. Why do you think they did it?” “I don’t know. I guess they weren’t thinking very good.” “Well sweetheart, let’s pray that they will one day learn from their mistakes. We must know the rules of good behavior. If we have good morals and values then we can work together so that no one intentionally gets hurt."

"Sometimes listening to our friends and not our hearts can get us into trouble. That’s why you hear people say ‘think before you act.’” “I know when my friend is talking to me, but how will I know when my heart is talking to me,” Cindy innocently asked. “Your heart will ache when you think about doing something wrong and it will rejoice when you have a pleasing thought.”

“I don’t want my heart to ache. How can I stop it from aching,” she asked with great concern. “You can stop your heart from aching by not being afraid to follow the good voice within you.” “Is there really a person with a voice inside me? Does he have a name,” Cindy asked more curiously now.

“There is a voice and it has two names. One is filled with goodness and more powerful than the other. If you ask some they may say that one voice is ‘your conscience’. However, you will never see it, it is often ignored, and we don’t always trust or like it. Some claim to not have one. They know it does not have many friends and it is not well liked most of the time.”

“What is the other voice’s name”, Cindy asked with much interest. “The other voice’s name is very popular and above all other names. People say it everyday without realizing it. Sadly many do not know nor listen to it.” “Is he the good voice?” “Oh yes. His is the good voice. When you listen to Him you will never go wrong. You will always want do the right thing. You will choose good friends. You will always be loved by Him. And when there is trouble He will not leave you.”

“If his is the good voice, then why wouldn’t more people listen to him?” “They haven’t taken the time to get to know Him. ” “Is that all it takes is time,” Cindy asked poignantly. “Yes, that’s all it takes is time. If people stopped from what they are doing, they could go to a quiet place and hear Him at any minute of any day.”

Cindy’s eyes lit up, “I want to hear Him so that I can know Him and be loved. Take me there!” “I can show you the way, but if you want to keep Him in your life it is something I cannot do for you. But you can visit and talk to Him as much as you want.” Cindy smiled and sat up tall ready to go.

“Press the palms of your hands together and place them carefully in front of your heart. Now close your eyes until the world is quiet. It is then that you will hear the “good voice.” You can ask Him questions and if you really listen He will answer you. It pleases Him when you say “thank you” for all the good things in your life. With Him you will learn to smile often. Your heart will jump with delight at the sound of His name because you know Him. He seems to know how to make everything better.”

“How long must I stay in the quiet,” Cindy whispered wanting to do things just right. “It is not the amount of time that you spend there that you should concern yourself with. What’s important is that you trust His voice and will visit and praise Him often.” “How will I know if it is the good voice I’m listening to? What is His name?” “His name is known all over the world. He is the one that created us. When you believe in Him, He will make himself known to you. His name is “God.”

“I know about God. He’s in heaven. Why are you saying he’s inside of me?” “Because God gave everyone His spirit to guide and protect us. It is up to us to get to know Him. Now, more questions tonight honey. Right now, it’s time for you to rest."

"Close your eyes my little angel, and go visit God. He has great plans for you and He wants to talk to you about them. Sweet dreams my little one!”

“Mommy?” “Yes Cindy.” “Can I ask God to change Sarah and Ryan? Maybe they are missing God in their lives.” “I think that’s a great idea baby. Go to sleep now. Good night.” “Good night mommy,” Cindy said with excitement. “Be sure you go and talk to God about his great plans for you and maybe you know someone you can pray for too!”

Standing outside Cindy's bedroom door, her Mommy leaned against the wall, closed her eyes, pressed her palms together carefully in front of her heart, and stood until the world was quiet. With a tear of joy that fell down her cheek she gave praise to God, “Thank you Lord, you did it again. You just answered my prayer.”

Inspired by Jeremiah 18:1-6

The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: "Come, go down to the potter's house, and there I will let you hear my words." So I went down to the potter's house, and there he was working at his wheel. The vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as seemed good to him. Then the word of the LORD came to me: "Can I not do with you, O house of Israel, just as this potter has done?" says the LORD. "Just like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel."

You bring me joy!

Do you remember “Cracker Jacks?” “That candy coated popcorn peanuts and a prize, that’s what you get in Cracker Jacks!” Are you old enough to remember that catchy jingle? It was the most fun for a child to get one of those slim blue foiled boxes. The box featured a young boy on the front cover wearing a navy blue sailor outfit, a white hat, and at his feet was a little white pooch with a black eye and ear. The box opened on the topside and that wonderful whiff of heavenly popcorn, roasted peanuts, and syrupy sweetness permeated the air. Before the first morsel touched our lips, our happy little fingers moved the candied corn to search for the much anticipated prize. When our excitement was too much to contain, we turned the treat box upside down and scattered its contents all over the tabletop. There hidden among the clusters of chewy paradise was an itty bitty prize packet that housed a tattoo, stickers, a little ring, whistles, watches, spinning tops, miniature joke books, and even a hologram. It sounds kind of silly now, doesn’t it? How that little box brought such joy to a young heart! Maybe it isn’t so silly that something so simple, readily available, and uncomplicated could bring such happiness to one’s life. Today, what brings joy to your heart? What fills your being with life?

We search for material and tangible things in life to realize a dream, give us temporary relief from stresses, or a much needed break in our daily routine. Although trivial, we may even think that a ride in an open convertible, front row seats to a concert, singing in the shower, a vacation to Europe, a night out on the town, or a yummy piece of cake are joys close to our hearts! Yes these are exciting and delectable things that are pleasing to our minds, spirits and senses, but what do they fix or satisfy? When the vacation is over, the hangover from the weekend sets in, and the cake calories and fat have gone to our hips and tummy, what is it that we still desire to make us happy?

As we mature in age, experiences and thoughts, our idea of “joy” takes on a different level of emotion and we are filled with thoughts of the many wonderful blessings in our lives. It may be the thought of our grandchildren, or the fact that we have our sick spouse or loved one with us one more precious day. What was important yesterday may seem suddenly trivial when we put things into a deeper and perhaps more proper perspective. However, we must go through these growing periods in our lives to reach our ultimate maturity.

As we gain more wisdom during this prime of our life, we are more mindful of the many circumstances that would more deeply bring a smile to one’s face, satisfy a spirit that may feel void, or that might make warm a cold place in the heart. However, even the most delightful thing we’ve experienced is not necessarily our most ultimate feeling of joy.

Since we've poured much of our selves into earthly things, we've ignored a special area in our lives that is likely untapped and highly underexplored. It is simple, uncomplicated and readily available to each one of us and it has the potential to bring so much joy that our cup would runneth over!

Jesus lived, died, and rose to prove to us that within Him holds the mysterious answer to life's joy, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field.” Heaven is our ultimate gift of joy! Jesus' life depicted the passion and provided the excitement and hope for our heavenly kingdom. It is our future home and that place that we should be seeking now to fulfill our hearts! Perhaps our lives have been too busy to wrap our brains around this one! Nor have we ever really connected our earthly spirit to our holy one. However, today is a new day filled with opportunities for new enlightening choices!

You will find that on that one day, at that one special moment when you do make the hope of the kingdom of heaven your personal delight and wonder, your joy of the love of the Lord and all that He promises will overtake you, and your gladness for your future will fill every nook and cranny of your being, and your cup will truly runneth over.

Accept this unique and joyful treasure as part of what brings you peace and joy in your daily life. Choose to see it as part of you. Sleep soundly at night because it is yours. Train your lips so that you will speak encouragingly about it to others. Discipline your hands so that one day you might touch it. Know that you’ll experience a love beyond what any human can provide. Be comforted in knowing there is an incredible support system and love beyond measure within the hope of that treasure. Perfect your new mindset and prepare your heart for your future. And believe, with the grace of God, when He has called you home, and you’ve finally set your feet upon the holy ground, you will know the greatest pleasure, and in that thrill beyond anything you could imagine, “true and pure joy” will be yours forever!

You bring me joy, Oh Lord! In You, is where I seek my happiness! Inspired by Mathew 13:44-46 Jesus said to the disciples, "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.”

God is waiting for you to thrive!

You live on holy soil. Fertilize the ground you walk on with steadfast faith.

You are a worthy seed of the earth. It is up to you to dig deep your good and just roots so that you produce the greatest of shrubs, trees, and flowers.

Your harvest was designed to flourish and failure was not part of the plan. Set your eyes on what is yours and train your hands to nurture the expected harvest.

Your crops require discerning cultivators to yield bountiful returns. Be the example that others are drawn to emulate.

Your spirit is the water and sunshine that the earth needs to grow. Use your freedom of spirit to nourish the earth see how God’s grace is abundant and apparent in your life.

Cultivate and till your life regularly so your yield will be plentiful. Then smile and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

God is waiting for you to thrive!

Inspired by Matthew 12:31-32

Jesus put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

Journey with the Saints

We are but travelers on a journey without as yet a fixed abode; we are on our way, not yet in our native land; we are in a state of longing, but not yet of enjoyment. But let us continue on our way . . . so that we may ultimately arive at our destination.

-St. Augustine (4/3 calendar)

I am every day more convinced that happiness in heaven is for those who know how to be happy on earth.

-St. Josemaria Escriva (4/4 calendar)

As the Lord's sheep, let us set out for those pastures where we shall keep joyful festival with so many of our fellow citizens . . . Let us stir up our hearts, rekindle our faith, and long eagerly for what heaven has in store for us.

-St. Gregory the Great

Resolve from now on to keep heaven before your mind, to be ready to forego everything that can hinder you or cause you to stray on your journey there.

-St. Francis de Sales

The best part of waking up . . .

The best part of waking up . . .

In whom do I trust?

“How can I trust you, all you do is lie?” “I don’t know who to count on. Even my own family has turned against me.” “Mommy, should I trust Grandpa? Will he hurt me again?” “I can’t help feeling skeptical. Everywhere I turn someone is only thinking of himself.” “Give me your vote. The other candidates are not trustworthy.” “I want to trust you. But how will I know you will not hurt me again?” “Listen to me. How many times do I have to ask you to trust me?” “I know I’ve failed you before, but you can depend on me this time.”

He shall rely upon his family, but it shall not last (Job 8:15).

On the dollar bill it reads, “In God We Trust.” It is interesting to note that men of the United States, the very ones who deemed themselves founders of a great nation, once thought that such a proclamation was so important that they printed it on currency that would eventually monopolize our trade and commerce, rule and have power over the elite and rich to the poorest and pitiful, govern the world, local economy, schools and workplaces, dominate past, present and future ranks of working generations, and have power and control over our inept and cruel social scales and status. Of course in a different era, this same governing assembly along with a cast of millions of citizens, have worked to remove God from our workplace and schools, thereby relying on man’s judgment for what is just and right to suit our greed, power and control.

This infamous printing of “In God We Trust” on our currency passes mindlessly through our hands every day as does perhaps our “Spiritual Trust In God.” However, today it might well serve as an incredible reminder that “Trust in God” is something that will touch us deeply and will profoundly bid us to change our lives. With each dollar spent and each conscious moral decision made we might be reminded that our dependence for our everyday living should not lean toward each other but rather rest in our “Trust in God.” As a mass of people, a family large or small, a couple or individual, we must ask ourselves in the name of deep meditative spirituality, “When and how do we live with ‘Trust in God?’”

Even in times of our greatest trials, do we really trust in our Creator? Do we only trust when the good ending has been revealed or do we lose hope when the hard to believe result has jolted us? When the surgery is finally over and the doctor comes to announce that all has gone well or amiss, is this when we breathe a sigh of relief or scream in defeat with painstaking grief? Do we believe that God has it out for us or that He has a greater plan when we must adapt to change, are forced to move, lose our home, our job or a loved one? Do we gripe, swear and disown our Lord or do we have faith that money or help will be there when our cupboards are bare and hunger pangs are great? Do we believe that the hiccups in our lives are just the devil at work or will we view life’s setbacks as our wake up call to see the greater powers of God? Do we speak and live without faith or do we hold steadfast with our belief in Jesus’ resurrection and God’s promise for eternity?

If you don’t know your God and trust in Him, you’d better decide “LiKe NoW” to join this holy crusade or risk scalding! God promised Israel He would not let the flames of life consume them! Would He not do the same for us who claim to believe in Him? Do you wholeheartedly and unequivocally believe and trust that God is your rock and salvation?

Okay . . . We are waiting for you . . . We want to wait . . . No, we don’t have better things to do. Have you decided yet? What? Uhhhhh, can’t hear you so well. No, no, no. Don’t cast those eyes down and certainly don’t look away. You have pretty eye lashes, however, your focus needs to be here . . . Look up – it’s only text – My God help this person - this is not a face to face confession with one’s neighbor (isn’t that what got up in trouble in the first place? Just say’n . . .). The question is “Do you trust in God?” I know it hard. I get it. This might be the first time you are facing and really seeing God. If you say, “I trust in Him” this means you have to change. Yeah, well, there are worse things in life. You can remain as you are and stay stuck, blind and your own mindset or that of others shall devour you.

Maybe we need an image to get good concentration going. I’ve got an idea. Look at a picture of Jesus. It’s the closest visual you’ll get of God without dying. Go ahead, get a picture of Him. We’ll give you time . . . You don’t have a picture, o-k-a-y . . . get a crucifix, bible, figurine, a rosary? You must have something. Oh, you are not at home. Well okay, close your eyes and picture Jesus. When you can see Him --- and can no longer deny Him --- offer your complete trust --- then . . . open your new eyes.

Oh dear Lord doesn’t this make you happy! Look at all the believers! There is hope, t-h-e-r-e is h-o-p-e!! There is . . .! Oh, sorry, I got carried away. Where were we? Oh yes. Now that you’ve given birth to trust far beyond yourself, hold on for the ride of your life! God has great plans for you!

I can hear you. It’s coming out! “Wake up world! Uhm, uhm, uhm. Don’t tell me it gloomy outside. Oh, no. It’s a beautiful day that the Lord has made. And I smell the aroma of heaven in my coffee cup! Ohhh, that first steaming gulp fills me with a renewed freshly brewed attitude. Yessssss! I feel the caffeine-like effect of God’s love infiltrating my sleepy veins. Sluuuuurp. Hmmmmmmm! I can see my life is already transforming! The rich aroma from my cup has wonderful hints of hope, peace and love. I relish this savory moment and heavenly taste, and I realize that I have never had a more wonderful blend of ‘faith infused java’”.
“I must have been crazy, how could I not know You Lord. How could I give You up when You make me feel so good? I am addicted to You through my active faith and reverent prayer. My heart is overwhelmed and pulsates wildly when I seek you first and see your merciful and generous hand in my life. I am drawn to Your unselfish love and comforted by Your healing power and grace. You have a wonderful effect on my attitude and my life.”

Recall this fabulous moment of eye opening self revelation when life’s struggles and harmful attitudes disturb your peace. Close your eyes and breathe deep until you can recall and enjoy that satisfying fragrance, gratifying emotions, and fulfilling feelings you’ve come to know through your “Trust in God.” Don’t stop there! Research your “holy coffee beans” folks. Pick up your bible and read it, go to church, volunteer to help someone or a group in need, and give God your troubles. See what God does for you and then do your part. Find out what moves you, stirs your soul, feeds your spirit and awakens your heart. Cup your trusting hands around God’s Fatherly promise of care and love.

When we trust in the Holy One present among us, we joyfully and expectantly prepare ourselves for higher heights. And much satisfaction can be experienced in each mindful sip from the cup of life. For with this supreme blend, each serving can be as savory as, or even more fulfilling than the last.

Nothing can bring you down! Yes, I hear you now, go with it! “Traffic #@&* on the road? Huh! It just gives me more quiet time to myself for prayer for others, praise to God, singing with a joyful heart and good thoughts for all mankind.” “An angered co-worker? Agh! I won’t get sucked in. I refuse! I’ll turn a frown into a smile, have less wrinkles on my forehead, and hallelujah have lower blood pressure!” “A screaming baby? Whatever! I am blessed to have a child with lungs and who can communicate “nonsense or a need. What do you need honey? Mommy (or “Daddy” as the case may be) is going to make it all better. Excuse me sir, can you add some chamomile to my tea or a shot of vodka would do (is it 12 o’clock yet?). By any chance do you carry earplugs?”

The more we call on God the more He is present in our lives. The best part of waking up is “trusting the Lord” to fill your cup.

Inspired by: Hosea 11:1-4; 8-9

When Israel was a child I loved him, out of Egypt I call my son. The more I call them, the farther they went from me, sacrificing to the Baals and burning incense to idols.
Yet it was I who taught Ephriam to walk, who took them in my arms; I drew them with human cords, with bands of love, I fostered them like one who raises an infant to his cheeks; Yet, though I stooped to feed my child, they did not know that I was their healer.

How could I give you up, O Ephraim, or deliver you up, O Israel? How could I treat you as Admah, or make you like Zeboiim? My heart is overwhelmed, my pity is stirred. I will not give vent to my blazing anger, I will not destroy Ephraim again;

For I am God and not man,The Holy One present among you; I will not let the flames consume you.
